I dunno if we should necessarily advertise that we have no nukes, the countries involved probably know already but there are others who may consider that a good sign that they should resolve the issue of Russia once and for all.

Sorry, just woke up.
I propose that we promise not to rebuild the nukes as long as no nation reaches Defcon 3 and allow international inspectors to confirm it. This costs us nothing; we can't fire until someone is at Defcon 1 anyways, so I wasn't planning on doing so; but it looks like a friendly gesture.
IIRC, only Infantry can fortify borders. I think sending some equipped with air filters to Eastern Russia and Kazakhstan to start doing that is an excellent idea though.
The missile shield is gone permanently, so yay! Our other objective is to expand our territorial reach, which we did a decent job at. I'm going to keep an eye out for further opportunities but for now I think we're as extended as is practical.
I would consider a military drawdown but think this might not be the best time for it, seeing as armed forces may be needed to secure borders and prevent panic. A defensive pact with China would be very welcome, though.

What's this about it being ok for me to post now? I don't see anything about that in the thread or my inbox?
Until then; we had one of the hosts post in the thread that the sanctions would impair our ability to fight the virus. Focus on that, mention we have some programs to possibly reduce the spread but suspect they will increase panic. And let's make the offer about the nukes, make a few noises about how we've changed (non-specific, and don't mention Ukraine) and try to get public sympathy on our side.

This is what Gumpy said,
Timspork is able to post in the thread, new player coming in - I believe the confusion and work you guys will have to do to get things back in order is enough of a penalty from the assassination
I am confirming with Gumpy on the Infantry closing borders. All of our proper infantry is in eastern Europe though so they'd need to redeploy through Russia to get to Kazakhstan. If Millita can't close borders I'd propose I move one unit of infantry from the three eastern European countries we hold back into Russian and replace two of them with the Militia. Then, since I think they can only move across one border at a time, next turn we move the infantry into Kasakhstan. That is two turns though.
Is there anything we can do to get them there faster?

I don't think so. I'd move two infantry; one for Kazakhstan, one for Eastern Russia's border with Kazakhstan in case we aren't able to stop the spread. And remember to give them air filters; in fact, we should probably start equipping our units in East Russia with those as funding allows.

Okay. This turn I'll move one infantry from Belarus into East Russia, one from Ukraine into East Russia, then one from Hungary into Ukraine, since everyone seems to ignore Hungary and focus on Ukraine. Next turn we can move one infantry into Kaz.
Current upkeep is $16. How much could you give me for Air Filters? They are $1 per unit. I'd say don't spend too much on me and give as much to science as possible.

We don't have any troops in Hungary; I think you mean Romania.
We don't need to pay upkeep on a military unit unless we use it, so let's have all the ships and tanks and planes stay in place unless needed. JayKaos, how much would you like for science?

Also China is super interested in that defense pact. Diplomat or Premier, you might want to contact JDarksun. I'm not sure I should be the one replying to him about it.

Grumpy got back to me. Any ground units can close borders. Naval ships can close sea borders, only aircraft canot close borders. So I think we should get some militia in the Kaz now with air filters while the infantry redeploy.

Agreed. Maybe consider closing our sea borders as well; the longer we can keep the virus out the better condition we'll be in later in the game.

Cold bloodedly, I expect the attempt to keep the virus out of Kazakhstan to eventually fail; I'd like to plan on using it as a buffer zone to protect Russia.

We may want to close our borders in Russia proper first, we should have better screening methods in a turn which we can take to Kazakhstan later. We also have the possibility of using the anti-viral drugs.

Who makes the call on closing borders? We can start doing so in Russia now as it takes some turns Then move expendable militia in Kaz to do the same next turn. Do we have a pact with China? I'd want to liaise with them on closing pacific ocean borders from our eastern fleet.

I've supported a defensive pact with China, though I'm not sure if it's finalized yet.
I'm hesitant to close the border in Russia already, though if it takes more than one turn I guess we should go ahead.
