Russia is researching Anti-Viral Drugs (Ethical) this turn.

TECH RESULTS
Antiviral Drugs Using your knowledge of the virus, you have managed to come up with a variety of drugs that will combat the infection. Keep in mind that this is not a vaccine. This will not prevent you from contracting the virus, it will only prevent your infection from getting worse. However, drugs cost money. And is costs even more to test and approve those drugs for general consumption. You may pay $3 to buy your country enough antiviral drugs to last the current turn. This cost increases by $1 each time you use it. If your country is on Antiviral Drugs, any increase in Infection will be delayed until a turn when your country is not on Antiviral drugs.

Your research into Antiviral Drugs has unlocked Environmental Factors (ETHICAL/UNETHICAL): Research into how the virus responds to different environmental conditions (Heat, Cold, Moisture, etc.)

Btw, Egypt sent out some info on Environmental Factors a little while ago, so here it is if any of it is interesting for diplomatic stuff-
Our scientists have increased their knowledge of the virus even further, studying how the virus reacts to differing conditions. Our first concern was temperature. How does the virus respond to heat/cold? Our findings were highly interesting. While intense cold does decrease cell metabolism, the virus appears to manufacture a sort of anti-freeze protein, allowing infected cells to continue viral production even in sub-zero conditions. The conclusion here is that low temperatures are unlikely to contain the virus. On the other hand, heat serves as an effective way to destroy the virus, denaturing the viral proteins that bind the virus to the host cell. Temperatures greater than 200 degrees Celsius tend to destroy the virus completely, although there is currently no way to also prevent the destruction of the host cell. Our scientists also researched the effects of humidity on the virus, although the results were somewhat disappointing. The virus appears to spread equally well in both dry and humid conditions, and it seems to be able to spread through water, a possible method of infection that escaped our notice earlier. Finally, our research also tried to pinpoint which mammalian species were susceptible to the infection. Along with the animals noted earlier in your research, popular food animals, including pigs, cows, sheep, and deer have been found to be susceptible. This is highly alarming. All slaughterhouses should be on high alert and should be outfitted with appropriate scanning technology as soon as possible. Because the virus is destroyed by high temperatures, all citizens should be told to cook their food very thoroughly to decrease risk of infection.

That's interesting. I suggest we issue the cook meet thoroughly order immediately, and also look into what it would cost to boil all drinking water at an infrastructure level.

Since Egyoy already researched environmental factors maybe we should go down First Signs? That and the scan might be good to tell if livestock are infected? Maybe work on renewable energy towards improved comes as well? I don't think we need to spend much on military so maybe put a bunch into science?
Did we every actually have a research agreement with China? Did anything come from that?

Oh and does Egypt giving us that info count as us having that research now?

We don't get the mechanical benefit from it (ie no progress on the tech tree), just the information. That's why we were able to put out all the research we'd posted on disease causes as well, everyone else who wanted to go down that track still had to research it manually.
For First Signs there's a bunch of prereqs we haven't gotten yet, I think China already got those so I'm working on seeing if I can trade the military stuff for it - our last agreement with them was a turn ago, we traded Cause of Infection for Conscription. That's the only agreement we've had so far, I've talked to a few other nations about it but we never quite get it going.

Well China has two infected borders and JDarksun wanted to help us out due to the UN thing. Maybe we could give them filters for something? I might help them in securing their borders.

Yeah, I've offered the air filters and Strategic Reserve - just waiting for a response.

Okay, China can help with renewable energy this turn, if I can get $8 I can get both that and improved comms tonight, and then First Signs tomorrow. They're willing to do a one-sided agreement for Renewable Energy tonight, they mentioned they're looking at the air filters for tomorrow night so we can reciprocate then.

China just offered me First Signs for nothing. You might want to check with jDark. if we can get first signs from China then we should be able to get Scanners next?

They've already offered us a research agreement for Renewable Energy, if they have First Signs too then... I must be misreading how the prerequisites work on the tech tree shit. I'll try and confirm that with sirfab.

Okay no I was thinking of Detailed Scans, I'll get First Signs from China as well.

Yeah if we get both Renewable energy and First Signs we should sink however much we need to get detailed scans. Unless we also need improved coms first then get that.
