Hum, if we get firestarters this turn we could build those instead of infantry. I'm betting there are probably techs to upgrade them on the second tree. Detailed scans might not be that much use to us; by the point it would give us results I think we should be assuming all unaligned countries are infected anyways.

Okay Fight with Fire is also Environmental Factors according to sirfab in the thread (we have an old version of the tech tree I guess?) so I know at least one or two countries have that, hopefully I can get help with that. Given that we can get to Firestarters relatively cheap this turn, so I wouldn't build any techs until I can do that.

Does that mean we only need to get Lightweight gear to get slash and burn? With that we could purify Kazakhstan, since we should be able to keep it at Infection 1 with antivirals.
Not sure that's the route we want to go, but it's a possibility.

Yeah, that's definitely an option, though we'll probably wanna get Lightweight Gear without assistance so we don't worry anyone.

Nah, just say we want firestarters.

For this turn Russia is researching- Environmental Factors (with the Research Agreement with Egypt) Detailed Scans (with the Research Agreement with Egypt) Firestarters

Don't we need the lightweight thingie for firestarters?
Edit: Oh wait, no, that's slash and burn. I got confused.

Yeah, that's slash and burn; gonna get that along with lightweight next turn - probably with help, as Egypt's getting that now.

Detailed ScansYou have incorporated your knowledge of the signs of infection with your communication technology. The result is a long range scanning tool that should be able to detect the virus at distances great enough for you to assess the infection levels of distant countries without the need to send troops there personally. The downside is that the technology is still clunky and inefficient. It takes a long time to scan a region, even if the results are accurate. Each day you can select a region (either PC or NPC) to scan. You will be informed of their current level of infection.Environmental FactorsYour scientists have increased their knowledge of the virus even further, studying how the virus reacts to differing conditions. Your first concern was temperature. How does the virus respond to heat/cold? Your findings were highly interesting. While intense cold does decrease cell metabolism, the virus appears to manufacture a sort of anti-freeze protein, allowing infected cells to continue viral production even in sub-zero conditions. The conclusion here is that low temperatures are unlikely to contain the virus. On the other hand, heat serves as an effective way to destroy the virus, denaturing the viral proteins that bind the virus to the host cell. Temperatures greater than 200 degrees Celsius tend to destroy the virus completely, although there is currently no way to also prevent the destruction of the host cell. Your scientists also researched the effects of humidity on the virus, although the results were somewhat disappointing. The virus appears to spread equally well in both dry and humid conditions, and it seems to be able to spread through water, a possible method of infection that escaped your notice earlier. Finally, your research also tried to pinpoint which mammalian species were susceptible to the infection. Along with the animals noted earlier in your research, popular food animals, including pigs, cows, sheep, and deer have been found to be susceptible. This is highly alarming. All slaughterhouses should be on high alert and should be outfitted with appropriate scanning technology as soon as possible. Because the virus is destroyed by high temperatures, all citizens should be told to cook their food very thoroughly to decrease risk of infection. FirestartersFirestarters are a new way to fight against this monstrous world. Equipped with heavy armour and flamethrowers, they serve as effective troops against the virus creatures that have begun to appear. Their well protected exteriors and easy-to-use weapons make them easier to train. Unfortunately, they need refueling to stay effective, and their low-range weapons make them mediocre at best when combating human troops. Hmm. With research agreements we can knock out the remainder of the original tech tree relatively cheap, or skip it and start focussing on the parts of the new one we can get now (specifically everything that depends on Env. Factors / Fight With Fire )- any thoughts? The benefits of glory/ heated infrastructure -> vaccine research track we can work towards right away, we'll need to do some of the earlier techs we never got to to reach the military stuff on the right (or Controlled Progression is).

The far right seems to be what might lead to a cure. Some of the left idle stuff looks good too. We really need to organize get countries all doing different things.

I have no idea how science works in this game :x. Jay, our lives are in your hands.
I totally trust you to make the best choice though. Work with the international community as much as possible; I think we have convinced a lot of people we're better now. Do whatever seems best; I don't see any techs that immediately leap out to me as necessary.

I kind of would like Slash and Burn, though. We need to draw a line in the sand and hold the infection out of Russia as long as possible. Do I recall a confirmation that black techs didn't mean they were unethical?

That US proposal seems good. Those blue things are needed work and try to get to those.

Yeah, the vaccine stuff we can jump straight towards (since Env. Factors is the only pre-req we have) - I'll try and coordinate with other nations to split the pre-reqs up (since nobody can get it in one turn anyway)
